In advancing the science of demolition engineering, the Institute asks its members to demonstrate that they are keeping their knowledge and expertise up to date.

The requirement
12 hours of CPD annually, of which six must be core hours— that is, specific to IDE educational activities.
The balance can be met through a wide range of professional development: technical reading, in-house training, site-based learning, industry conferences and formal study. What matters is that it is relevant, and that you can evidence it.
What counts as core hours
- The Institute’s spring and autumn seminars
- Regional CPD evenings and technical talks
- Examination preparation days
- Institute lectures, whether attended live or watched on demand
Recording your CPD
Members log their record in the members’ area, where hours accrue automatically for Institute events you attend or watch. For everything else, add the activity yourself with:
- the date or dates of the CPD;
- what you did;
- how many hours you spent on the activity;
- a copy of any supporting documentation or certification received as evidence.
Your record shows how you stand against the annual requirement at any point in the year, and can be exported as a certificate for employers, clients or tender submissions.
Why the Institute insists on it
Demolition engineering does not stand still: legislation changes, methods change, and the consequences of falling behind are not administrative. CPD is a condition of membership precisely because the letters are meant to say something current about the person holding them.
