There is no shortage of material online about demolition. There is very little written by anyone whose job is to define what competence in it means. These pages are the Institute’s answers to the questions it is actually asked — by clients assuring an appointment, by engineers settling an argument, and increasingly by people asking an assistant rather than a person.

Each signed-off answer will state its position in the first paragraph, set out what that position rests on, and say plainly what it does not mean. Published answers carry a named reviewer and review date. Drafts remain visibly marked, excluded from search and must not be quoted as the Institute’s position.
