Support for members
Membership should be worth something on the days it is hardest. Where the Institute can help directly it will, and where it cannot it will point you at people who can.

Talk to the Institute
If your circumstances have changed — illness, redundancy, a business in difficulty — contact the Institute before a subscription deadline rather than after it. Membership terminates automatically two months after a missed deadline under the Rules, and that is a bad way to lose standing you spent years earning. The Institute would rather have the conversation.
Retired members. Full Members and Fellows who have fully retired pay a reduced subscription of £30 a year and keep their grade and post-nominals.Subscriptions →
Mental health and wellbeing
Construction has a worse record here than almost any other sector, and demolition sits at the sharp end of it. The Institute is not a clinical service and will not pretend to be one, but it can say plainly that these exist and are free:

Career and professional
- Grade progression. If you have grown into the next grade, the Institute would rather you applied than waited to be asked. Check your grade →
- Proposers and seconders. If you do not know anyone at the Institute to propose you, say so — it should never be the reason someone does not apply.
- Examinations. There is no limit on attempts within two years of joining, and the preparation day exists precisely because the exam is meant to be passable. Examinations →
