Accessibility statement

What has been built in

• The shared colour tokens and core components were designed for WCAG 2.2 AA contrast; a final page-by-page audit is still required.
• Automated responsive sweeps cover 42 public routes and the full portal at mobile and desktop widths without horizontal overflow.
• One h1 per page, with headings in a meaningful order.
• Navigation, the membership route finder and the members’ register work by keyboard, and menus open on focus as well as hover.
• Images carry alternative text; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
• Form fields have visible labels and errors are announced, not only coloured.
• No content depends on colour alone to convey meaning.

What has not been done yet

The site has not yet been through an independent accessibility audit or user testing with people who use assistive technology. Automated checks catch a useful share of problems but not all of them, and it would be misleading to claim full conformance on that basis alone.

• Documents published as PDFs may not be fully tagged for screen readers.
• Some archive content imported from the previous site may have incomplete alternative text.
• Video published by the Institute may not yet be captioned throughout.

If something does not work for you

Tell the Institute. A specific report — the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened — gets fixed far faster than a general one, and the Institute would rather hear it than have you work around it.

If you need something the Institute publishes in a different format — large print, plain text, an accessible document — ask and it will be provided.
