How the Institute of Demolition Engineers handles the personal data of members, applicants and visitors.

Draft for the Institute's approval. This notice describes what the new platform processes. It must be reviewed and approved by the Institute before launch.

Who we are

The Institute of Demolition Engineers, Office 2, Innovation Studios Medway, 1044 Canal Road, Rochester, Kent ME2 4DT, is the data controller for the personal data described here.

The members' register

The Institute publishes a members' register so that clients and employers can confirm a person's professional standing. The register shows name, post-nominals, grade, membership standing, membership number, the year of joining, whether the member's CPD is current, and the region and specialisms the member has chosen to display. It does not publish contact details, addresses, employment information or CPD detail.

Members may ask to be excluded from the public register at any time without affecting their membership.

Who we share it with

Personal data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the Institute — payment processing, email delivery and hosting — and with CSCS where you apply for a PQP card. It is not sold, and it is not shared for marketing by third parties.

How long we keep it

Membership records are retained for the duration of membership and for seven years after it ends, to support reinstatement, the Institute’s historical record and its legal and accounting obligations. Applications that do not result in membership are retained for twelve months from the decision. Event bookings, payment records and invoices are retained for seven years from the end of the financial year in which they arose. CPD records are kept for the duration of membership plus seven years, because they evidence the CSCS PQP entitlement. Where a shorter period is required by law or a longer one is needed for a live dispute, that period applies instead.

Your rights

You have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to object to certain processing, to request erasure in some circumstances, and to receive your data in a portable form. Members can view and correct most of their own data directly in the members' area.

To exercise any of these rights, contact the Institute. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
