Where the profession meets

The Institute’s calendar is the CPD requirement made practical: six core hours a year have to come from Institute activity, and this is where they come from. Seminars, regional meetings, CPD evenings, examinations and the AGM.

Upcoming

What these are

Six kinds of gathering, one purpose.

Seminars

The spring and autumn programme: a full day of technical lectures, exhibitors and the Best Paper Award. The Institute's largest gatherings.

Regional meetings

Hosted by members and by the businesses that supply the industry. A tour, a technical presentation, and a proper discussion with questions from the floor.

CPD evenings

Shorter, single-topic sessions — the most efficient core hours in the calendar, and the easiest to get to after work.

Examinations & preparation days

Two examination sessions a year, each preceded by a preparation day that is mandatory for first-time candidates.

AGM & Annual Luncheon

Held each November. The Institute's formal business, the election of Council, and the profession's own lunch.

HTC Forum club

Howard Button's monthly online forum: a presentation and a lively debate, on Microsoft Teams at 19:30, free, one core CPD hour per attendance. No registration; the dates and the join link are in the calendar above. Missed one? Ask Howard for the slides.

Attending

Coming to one

Members book at member rates and have their CPD hours logged automatically. Non-members are welcome at most events — regional meetings in particular are a good way to meet the Institute before applying.

Seminars are recorded, so members who cannot travel can watch on demand and still claim the hours. Events are run at favourable rates, which is why bookings cannot normally be refunded except in exceptional circumstances.
