For some years now IDE and HSE have worked closely together in Yorkshire to support each other at Health & Safety events to try to spread a common message that competence & safety go hand in hand, so we were delighted to take a stand at the latest WWT Action Day on “Work at Height” held at Pontefract Racecourse on Thursday 27 March.

The well-publicised and well run event had exhibitors from training providers, MEWP suppliers, scaffolders and harness suppliers and featured indoor exhibition stands and an external demonstration area with delegates being split into groups with HSE guides to take them around all areas of the event culminating in a powerful and thought provoking presentation from Paul Blanchard at the end of the event.

The IDE stand, manned by Past President John Woodward, showed how demolition contractors deal with work at height with footage of explosive demolition and high reach machines in action interspersed with footage from the IDE website. IDE pens and the “Safety is no Accident” DVDs were by far the most popular items on the day along with the “Guidance for Clients” and the flyer for DemoExpo.

Unfortunately no IDE members attended the event but we continued to support HSE and raise the profile of IDE during the day.
