After graduating from Nottingham with a civil engineering degree, Mark worked for three years in Australia and New Zealand during the late 90’s. He used this period to learn and specialise in engineering 3D CAD systems while working for consulting engineering companies (including New Zealand’s largest).
In 2000 Mark headed to London and over the next five years spent time in major consulting engineering companies such as Ove Arup, WSP Group, and Bechtel. Here he continued to build his expertise in 3D.
The next couple of years was spent with Laing O’Rourke on site during the construction of Heathrow Terminal 5. As part of a 15-strong modelling team, Mark was tasked with creating reinforced concrete structures and associated works using software normally used in automobile design. The ‘experiment’ was considered a world-first and gave a unique insight of how manufacturing 3D can be applied to construction.
Seeing a potential gap in the market for a specialist supplier of project visualisation to building, civil engineering, and demolition companies, Mark set up Marsotti in 2007. After an initial three years of intense development based on an engineering ‘backbone’, Marsotti has to date completed well over 100 projects for a range of clients including Kier, Morgan Sindall, Bowmer & Kirkland, Erith, Squibb, and EDS. Now a solid demand has been established, Mark’s focus is on expanding the business.
In 2009, the company’s base was moved from London to just outside Sheffield (Mark’s hometown) in North-East Derbyshire.
