“The elevation of the IDE to affiliation of The Engineering Council shows that our institute has come of age and is recognised not only for its professionalism but also that of our members at large. This wider appreciation of the technical demands of this industry is a good stepping stone from which we can strive for wider recognition from and interaction with other professional bodies.
If elected to the Council of the IDE I would set as aims (i) a drive to encourage all working in the industry actively to consider membership, to recognise not only the benefits of personal membership but also the broader benefits to the IDE in having a healthy membership base; and (ii) to work in Council to broaden contact with other professional bodies and with the same to raise awareness not only of the role of the IDE but also the professionalism that rests within our industry.”
