Ian Wharton has more than 30 years professional engineering experience, primarily
within the process/chemical sector. Of which 20 have seen him develop specialist
knowledge in the field of decommissioning, demolition, dismantling and decontamination
project management; both as client with a UK major chemicals group, and specialist
project manager/operations director with UK leading specialist consultancy practice.
As operations, EHS, and engineering director of RVA Group. Ian leads a team of
professional project managers, providing a full suite of services including demolition
consultancy, feasibility studies, sanction grade estimates, pre construction
information/health and safety plans, works specifications, invitation to bid documentation,
safe systems of work/method statement review, cost control, third party liaison and site
supervision/auditing on a range of projects within the high hazard, often live/operational
With RVA acting as CDM coordinator on such sites, Ian ensures EHS excellence is the
non-negotiable priority, regardless of project complexity and the number of inherent
hazards or commercial constraints.
Ian has worked throughout the world with some of the most prestigious global blue chip
organisations, in sectors including oil and gas, pharmaceutical, chemical and
petrochemical, power and energy, manufacturing, local authority and housing.
Ian is committed to continued professional development, raising standards/profile of the
profession, establishing ‘world class best practice’ and developing a competent supply
chain. He completed a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering at Leeds University, and
has since gained further accreditation with AMIMechE, MIDE, AMIExpE, RMaPs.
